Srisailam Dam closes 3 flood gates due to reduction in inflows

Hyderabad: Three out of seven opened crest gates of Srisailam Dam were closed on Sunday following reduction of inflows in the catchment area.

On Sunday evening 1,12,000 cusecs flood is diverted through the four gates and around 73,000 cusecs through two power houses to downstream Nagarjuna Sagar.

‘We are not sure how long the floods sustain, presently it is showing decrease in upstream catchment, if IMD predictions are going to be true there is going to be another spell of heavy rains around Deewali festival’ Srisailam Chief Engineer C. Narayana Reddy said.

Meanwhile, around  2.15 lakh cusecs water reached Nagarjuna Sagar dam at 5 pm on Sunday according to Chief Engineer S. Suneel.

He said Nagarjuna Sagar dam holding crossed 200 TMC ft mark on Sunday afternoon while the present capacity is  204 TMC ft against full reservoir capacity of 312 TMC ft. NS Dam level reached to 548 ft against full level of 590 ft. There is still flood cushion of about 108 TMC ft in the dam.
