Kozikhode: The comprehensive waste management scheme envisaged by the District administration ‘Zero waste project’ will be launched on January 1 in the District. The project envisaged under the Haritha Kerala Mission aims at reducing the waste generated from Government offices, commercial establishments and other private institutions in the District.
The project had been designed to provide a sustainable waste management solution to dispose non-degradable waste generated from the district, said district collector U.V. Jose and district panchayath president Babu Parassery at a meeting held at the Collectorate conference Hall here. The project includes the Corporation, seven municipalities, 12 block panchayaths and 70 grama panchayaths.

The waste treated in the MRF will be later taken to the super MRF, which will be installed in the respective block panchayaths and other major areas, the Collector added.
Super MRF centres would cover 2,000 square feet area and will be installed at a cost of Rs 10-16 lakh. Mini MRF will cover a 1,000 square Feet area and will be constructed in each Grama Panchayath for collection of the non-degradable waste at a cost of Rs 4.5 lakh each.
