Thiruvananthapuram: UDF meeting on Friday urged the state government to withdraw the affidavit filed in the Supreme Court favouring the entry of women between the age of ten and 50 into Sabarimala. This demand was made on the background of the LDF claim that they were along with the sentiments of believers.

The UDF argued that the affidavit will result in a set back to the age old tradition when the issue of belief comes up before the seven member bench. The UDF meeting also decided to send a delegation of MLAs to Sabarimala to review the arrangements put in place there for the upcoming pilgrim season.

Meanwhile, constituent partners of the UDF including Muslim League and RSP attacked Congress over infighting in the party at the UDF meet. They said that in fight may result in the losses during the panchayat election. Any set back in the panchayat elections will have its reflection on the outcome of the Assembly results, they argued.

In the sidelines of the UDF meeting, leaders of Congress and other UDF partners held bilateral discussions with the both factions of the Kerala Congress to find a settlement on the ongoing tussle for the chairmanship of the party between Jose K. Mani and P.J. Joseph. However, the bilateral talks could not yield any result. The UDF however, decided to go ahead with the talks in the future.

Meanwhile, P.J. Joseph is learnt to have expressed his displeasure over the invitation extended to Jose K. Mani at the meeting. His argument was that only persons who are assigned by him have the right to attend the UDF meeting as Kerala Congress representative.

Meanwhile many activists of the Congress is learnt to have sent complaints to the high command on the jumbo list of office bearers submitted by the KPCC President Mullappally Ramachandran for approval for appointment.

The complaint was that the list lacked youth representation and violated the norms of one person one post.

The list is likely to be approved only after vetting by Rahul Gandhi.  Many people above the age of 60 in the proposed list of office bearers are likely to be removed before it is given an official approval.
