Andhra Pradesh: 1,000-km expedition on bicycles concludes

The idea is to cover 1000 km and facilitate education for at least 1,000 girls from the economically weaker section.

Visakhapatnam: The 1,000-km cycling expedition, Umeed-1000, a CSR initiative of RBL Bank, concluded at Sri Sathya Sai School in Vizag city on Friday. The 17 cyclists who travelled from Hyderabad to Vizag via Tirupati, covering most of the cities and towns of Andhra Pradesh, were enthused when they were received by cricketer Gautam Gambhir at the school in the city.

The cyclothon team was led by Jasmeet S. Gandhi, a cycling enthusiast and software professional. Shanta Vallury Gandhi, Head HR, CSR, and Internal branding of RBL, said the bank has been promoting such events for the past few years. The idea is to cover 1000 km and facilitate education for at least 1,000 girls from the economically weaker section.

This year’s cyclothon was dedicated to supporting Udbhav School located in Rasoolpura, Hyderabad, he added. Udbhav has been taken over by the IIM-A Alu-mni Association Hyderabad Chapter Charitable Trust. Over 10 days, the cyclists crossed 10 major cities - Hyderabad, Kurnool, Puttaparthi, Tirupati, Nellore, Ongole, Vijayawada, Rajahmundry, Pithapuram and Vizag.
