Gwalior bishop Dr Thomas Thennattu killed in road accident
The bishop was returning to his residence after an annual function in a school under his diocese.
Kottayam: Gwalior bishop Dr Thomas Thennattu, 65, died in a road accident there on Friday when his car skidded off and overturned.
The bishop was returning to his residence after an annual function in a school under his diocese.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and then to St. Joseph Hospital, Gwalior, where he was declared dead around 11.30 pm.
Fr Thennatt was ordained as the bishop of Gwalior on January 8 last year.
He was born on November 26, 1953, at Ettumanoor to Thennattu Kuruvila and Annamma in the Archdiocese of Kottayam.
He was a member of the St Joseph’s Knanaya Catholic Parish, Ettumanur.
In 1969, he joined the Minor Seminary in Thiruvananthapuram. Having completed his Novitiate in the Society of the Catholic Apostolate, he made his solemn profession on May 31, 1975, and was ordained a priest on October 21, 1978.
His funeral will be held at the Gwalior St Paul Church Bishop House cemetery on Tuesday.
