Waste to energy plant in Kollam
The plant, which will come up in seven acres of land at Kureepuzha, will have capacity to treat 200 tonnes of solid waste daily.
Kollam: The Kerala State Indu-strial Development Corporation (KSIDC), the nodal agency for setting up waste-to-energy project in the state, has signed lease deed with Kollam Corporation for implementing the project in the city.
The plant, which will come up in seven acres of land at Kureepuzha, will have capacity to treat 200 tonnes of solid waste daily. The lease agreement is signed for a period of 28 years. The waste-to-energy plant will be developed on public-private partnership model on design-build-finance-operate-transfer basis. Kollam Municipal Corporation, Karunagappally, Paravur and Kottarakka municipalities and a few grama panchayats, will benefit. Once operational the issue of waste treatment in Kollam Corporation and neighbouring areas will be permanently resolved.
