After GHMC, Warangal municipal elections next on TRS list

Hyderabad: The TRS leadership obviously believes in the adage “Nothing succeeds like success” as it prepares to implement the “Hyderabad formula” in the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation elections.

While a nine-member committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari will oversee the election campaign, the star campaigner will be Panchayat Raj, IT and municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao.
In fact, Mr Rama Rao will lead the election campaign on the lines of the GHMC.

The IT minister, who has already begun touring Warangal city, has thrown in the bait to TRS leaders, saying nominated posts would be filled up before the party’s Foundation Day on April 27.

The TRS plans to come out with a “Warangal manifesto” with a slew of promises for all-round development of Warangal city, including laying of roads, re-modeling of the drainage system, drinking water to every home, building flyovers, affecting traffic decongestion, improving sanitation, and increasing employment opportunities with new IT and other companies etc.

The ruling party plans to deploy ministers, legislators and senior party leaders in every ward for campaigning and taking up civic issues before the polls.
For instilling confidence in the people, especially the youth, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will lay the foundation stone for a unit of InfoTech IT Company in Warangal on April 17.

Back in Hyderabad, Mr Rama Rao held a pre-Budget meeting with officials and asserted that the government would treat all municipalities equally and ensure basic civic amenities and necessary budgetary allocation in the forthcoming Budget.

“Budget figures will go up in tune with the increase in welfare and developmental activities. New markets, buildings for nagara panchayats, graveyards, and new vehicles for clearing garbage are among the various proposals made. The government will also take up urban tank renovation and development programme,” Mr Rama Rao said.

Telangana insists on bigger House
The TS government on Tuesday reiterated its demands for increase in the number of Assembly constituencies in the state from the present 119 to 153, and implementation of promises made to TS in the AP Reorganisation Act.

TRS Floor leader in Lok Sabha A.P. Jitender Reddy made these requests during the all-party meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi ahead of the Budget Session.

“On behalf of the state, I requested  for steps to increase the number of Assembly seats from 119 to 153. I also sought speedy implementation of the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act,” Mr Reddy told DC.

He also sought more funds for backward districts in TS, division of the High Court, and action on recent memoranda given by the CM to the PM.
