Hyderabad: Auckland police arrested a Hyderabadi student on Thursday as he came out of a church in which 12 students from India were taking shelter to avoid being deported. New Zealand’s immigration authorities want them to be deported as they were found to have declared false information to get their visas.
Shujath Mirza was arrested by the police as he came out of the church and was going to his rented room.
Other students from Hyderabad, who are holed up in the church, fear they may be taken into custody next and deported to India.
Shujath Mirza studied at St Joseph’s Degree and PG College in Basheerbagh and went to New Zealand for postgraduate studies.
He and the others are in trouble because their agents produced fraudulent documents to get them visas. Shujath was studying Business Administration.
The students have received a certain amount of sympathy from the public in New Zealand, who believe they are the innocent victims of crooked agents.
An Auckland resident, Clay Nelson, who has been supporting the students, posted on his Facebook: “This is the face of what deportation looks like. I visited Shujath at the Central Police Station. He is a well educated man who has done no harm being sent home with “deported from New Zealand” in his passport. He will bear this “scarlet letter” for the rest of his life limiting his employment or capacity to travel.”
