VMC finds temporary garbage dumping yard

Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) had once again started temporary measures to control fire at Ajit Singh Nagar dumping yard in city. The civic body is heading towards a temporary solution as permanent solution for the problem is a costly affair.
The civic body with the help of fire department seized fire and headed for temporary works to avoid fire in coming summer. The VMC which thought of finding permanent solution for the issue had prepared detailed estimates on clearing the garbage but latter took a back step as it costs around Rs 16 crore to clear 2.5 lakh tonnes garbage and fill the pits with gravel considering the poor financial position.
The VMC which is facing criticism on the issue is heading for temporary measures with a budget of '8 lakh. VMC superintendent engineer P. Adi Seshu said that civic body had already stopped dum-ping garbage at Ajit Singh Naga.
He said that they are leveling the garbage with proclainer and heading to cover it with a thick layer of gravel which will further help to decompose garbage and prevents fire.
Meanwhile, the Cong-ress city wing, along with the local residents, staged a protest in front of dumping yard demanding permanent measures to clear garbage.
City Congress president Malladi Vishnu demanded the civic body to consider the problem of Vambay colony residents as smoke and bad odor from the garbage is creating breathing disorders. The Municipal should stop publicising and focus on solving public issues, says Malladi Vishnu.
