Navigational buoy washed ashore leaves locals alarmed

Chennai: Tension prevailed in Marina beach on Thursday night after a navigational buoy, which got washed ashore, created a flutter among the public gathered there, who assumed it to be a mysterious object and alerted the police.

Around 10 pm, the buoy- about 8 feet long and about 3 feet wide - washed ashore behind the MGR memorial. Local fishermen and members of the public who witnessed the buoy washing ashore alerted the police.
Anna Square police rushed to the scene on information and since they were not clear on what the huge object was, Bomb Disposal and Defusal Squad (BDDS) personnel were alerted. After going through the object, it was declared that it did not contain any explosive substance.
Police suspect the buoy to have drifted from either the waters of Chennai port or from the Ennore port.
