DMDK leader Vijayakanth will announce alliance soon, says wife Premalatha
Major political parties, national as well as state parties, are talking to us, Premalatha said.
Chennai: DMDK leader Vijayakanth will announce his party's alliance for the coming Lok Sabha elections "very soon" and it would be "a winning team", according to his wife Premalatha.
"Captain had appointed a committee to hold discussions with prospective allies about the elections. Major political parties, national as well as state parties, are talking to us. They have approached us, we have not gone to anybody", she told reporters outside the Chennai airport, after emerging from the international terminal along with husband Vijayakanth and son Shanmugapandian.
She said Vijayakanth had to rest for a few hours inside the airport lounge as it was long haul of 25 hours from the US, where the medical treatment "has been very successful and he is fully recovered".
"The national party and also the prominent Tamil Nadu party have been talking to us. I do not have to name the TN party as you all know it", she said, obviously referring to the AIADMK, with which her party has been negotiating alliance for quite sometime.
"The Lok Sabha poll has not been announced yet by the Election Commission. Also, no political party has yet announced its poll alliance. So we still have time to take our decision and make the announcement", Premalatha said.
"Now that Captain has returned after treatment, he will discuss with all and take a good decision in about ten days. And official announcement will then be made", she said.
Earlier, the connecting flight from Paris landed at Chennai airport at about 0130 hours after which Vijayakanth rested in the VIP lounge at the international arrival terminal for a short while. The family had booked the lounge for eight hours but looked for other options as there was no bed there and the man needed proper rest. In the end, it was possible to get him a proper bed in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Airport Customs.
Vijayakanth finally came out of the airport in a battery car along with his family around 12.35 pm, after more than 11 hours of rest inside the airport. A large crowd of party members and supporters, who had waited patiently through the night and the morning, burst into cheering when they sighted their 'Captain'. He smiled and waved at them before getting into a SUV and driving home.
