K Chandrashekar Rao keeps poll promise, Mulugu is new district
Erstwhile Warangal district is now divided into six parts.
Warangal: As promised by Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao, a new district, Mulugu has been formed and will officially come into existence from Sunday.
Besides Mulugu another new district in Narayanapet, has also been formed. Erstwhile Warangal was already carved into five districts which include Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Jangaon, and Mahbubabad.
The Mulugu district is the sixth and has been carved out by taking a major area from Jayashankar Bhupalpally district and some villages from adjacent districts of Warangal Rural and Warangal Urban.
Bhupalpally district collector V. Venkateswarlu has been appointed as the new collector with full additional charge from February 17.
As per the gazette notification released by the state government, the new Mulugu district will comprise nine mandals – Mulugu, Venkatapur, Govindaraopet, Tadvai, Eturunagaram, Kannaigudem, Mangapet, Venkatapuram and Wazed with Mulugu as headquarters.
Locals have been demanding a separate Mulugu district for a long. During the district reorganisation in 2016, the people of Mulugu had opposed to the creation of a new district with Bhupalpally as the district headquarters. They wanted Mulugu as the headquarters.
While campaigning during the recently concluded Assembly elections, Mr Rao has promised to fulfil the dream of the people of Mulugu Despite people not voting for the TRS, KCR kept his promise.Immediately after forming the government, he issued orders calling for the preparation of proposals, suggestions and objections.
After considering the suggestions given by the people and weighing the available options, the district was carved out as per the proposal and the Gazette was released.
