TN Dalit honour killing: Five persons lodged in central prison
According to police, a gang hacked the Dalit youth Shankar to death and attacked his wife Kousalya with sickle.
Tirupur: With the due process of Law taking over, the five persons, arrested by the police on the charges of murdering Dalit youth Shankar in Udumalpet on Sunday, were lodged in the Coimbatore central prison on Wednesday after being remanded to judicial custody by a magistrate court in Udumalpet.
According to police, a gang hacked the Dalit youth Shankar to death and attacked his wife Kousalya with sickle. She is undergoing treatment at the Coimbatore Medical College hospital. Following initial investigation, police arrested the gang members including Manikandan, 25, Jegadeesan, 31, Michael alias Mathan, 24, Selvakumar,25, and Manikandan,39, from Palani. They were arrested on Tuesday near Palani in Dindigul.
Later, all the accused were brought to Udumalpet on Wednesday morning and produced before the Judicial Magistrate Court I Judge Srividya. The magistrate ordered their remand for 15 days. Following the order, the five arrested were lodged in the Coimbatore central prison.
Meanwhile, a team of officials from the National Commission for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes conducted inquiry on the killing of the Dalit youth, Shankar.
