Rajahmundry: Cops seize Rs 23 lakh during checks
Though Krishna Murthy claimed to the police that he got the cash from a bank as a housing loan, he failed to produce supporting documents.
Rajahmundry: West Godavari police seized Rs 23.50 lakh in two separate cases, when it was being transported, without valid papers, on Saturday.
In the first case, the police seized Rs 10 lakh from Kommu Krishna Murthy when he was carrying the cash in a bag on a bike with a woman, who was riding pillion, near the Municipal Office at Nidadavolu. The police were carrying out vehicle checking as part of their drive before the general elections next month.
Though Krishna Murthy claimed to the police that he got the cash from a bank as a housing loan, he failed to produce supporting documents. Police seized the cash because of this.
In another case, police seized Rs 13.50 lakh secured in a jewellery bag by Adabala Sankar, hailing from Narasapuram, while riding on a bike at Manchili Village of Athili mandal. Here also the police was carrying out inspection of vehicles. Though Sankar claimed that he was carrying the money to give it to another man identified as Venkanna at Pentapadu from whom he said he had taken a loan earlier, he failed to produce any documents. The police seized the amount.
