Hyderabad: TV anchor Geeta Bhagath lodged a complaint with the Sanathnagar police against a 13-year-old boy and his 75-year-old grandmother, alleging that they were abusing her.

“The two families stay in the same building at Motinagar. We have received a complaint against Geetha from the boy’s mother Sita a week ago. This is a recurring quarrel between the two parties,” said Sanathnagar sub-inspector B. Sanjeevulu. He said that as they were residents in the same building, they come face to face on several occasions. “During one such instance, the boy and his grandmother allegedly abused the anchor verbally.” he said.

Police booked a case under the IPC Sections 504 (insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) against the boy and his grandmother.

Child rights activists opposed filing a case on the minor. “They can not file such charges against him as he is a minor. The boy’s father had beaten the in front of the police but they did not stop him. His mother would be lodging a complaint against the TV anchor on Monday,” said Achyut Rao, founder president of Balala Hakkula Sangham.
