GHMC told to close pubs over parking

Kumar said the government was receiving complaints that a large number of pubs and restaurants were being run without providing parking space.

Hyderabad: Principal secretary, municipal administration, Arvind Kumar on Tuesday instructed GHMC Commissioner M. Dana Kishore to immediately get all pubs and restaurants inspected and ensure that they provide parking space as specified in the building rules.

He said that in case of failure to comply with the requirements, action should be initiated against the pubs and restaurants, including their closure

Mr Kumar said the government was receiving complaints that a large number of pubs and restaurants were being run without providing parking space, As a result, the vehicles of patrons were being parked on the roads and sub-roads, causing inconvenience to the general public and residents. He said, parking of these vehicles on the road sides was not only causing traffic problems but also nuisance to the residents. Mr Kumar said there were allegations that some of these eateries had encroached upon the road margins and footpaths. He directed Mr Kishore to take immediate action and furnish an action-taken report to the government within a fortnight.

“The department has initiated action as a large number of complaints are being received from the people saying that customers’ vehicles are being parked on the roads and sub-roads especially on Road No. 36, Road No. 45, Road No. 46 and Road No. 33 causing inconvenience to the people and nearby residents,” Mr Kumar said.
