Isolation is best cure to fight viral conjunctivitis
Experts state that once the immune system is compromised the body is not able to fight the virus and for this reason viral conjunctivitis flares up.
Hyderabad: The cases of viral conjunctivitis are increasing and among the prominent victims are TRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, who posted a message on Twitter about it.
Viral conjunctivitis is usually seen during the winter but due to the weather fluctuations, strong wind movements and pre-monsoon thunderstorms, the incidence is being noted in summer too.
Dr Atul Gupta, senior ophthalmologist, explained, “It occurs due to the presence of virus in the air. The other mode of transmission is through contact, either by shaking of hands, touch or due to use of shared towels. The disease is self-limiting but it causes a lot of burning and itching. It needs to be given supportive treatment of lubricants, rest and isolation.”
Experts state that once the immune system is compromised the body is not able to fight the virus and for this reason viral conjunctivitis flares up. It requires isolation as the spread is very fast and family members also have to take care as sharing common household things can lead to spread.
