Kalaburagi: It's usual for a family to throw a party or distribute sweets among friends and relatives if a child has secured a rank or  passed with distinction in his board exams.

But in the village of  Benakanahalli in Sedam taluk a man was so happy at his son passing the SSLC exam with a second class that he took out a procession through it,   while dancing with the boy on the roads.

A small time farmer, Devendrappa Gummari, has three sons.

His joy knew no bounds when his eldest, Arjun, passed the SSLC from a residential school in Gurmitkal with a mere  51%  marks!

To him, however, his performance seemed better than someone passing the IAS exam as Arjun is the first literate member of his family and he was determind to celebrate the achievement.

Garlanded by his father and relatives , the boy was taken in a procession from the Hanuman Temple to his house watched by the entire village.

Not stopping there the farmer distributed over 20 kg of laddus among the villagers.

Unlike other parents Mr Devendreppa has no big dreams for his son’s future. “I want him to do an ITI course and take up a job in a company,” was all he said modestly, when asked what he expected from Arjun.
