Kannur/ Thiruvananthapuram: Kannur town police on Tuesday booked a case against BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan for posting a video on twitter claiming that CPM activists had celebrated the recent killing of a BJP worker at Kannur.

State police chief T.P. Senkumar had earlier in the day directed Kannur district police chief Shiv Vikram to probe the veracity of the video on the basis of a complaint filed by  SFI Kannur district secretary Muhammed Siraj.

Chief Minister Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan had told the Assembly on Monday that a case might have to be registered against Mr. Kummanam for spreading misleading information. He also denied the allegation that the CPM workers celebrated the murder of the BJP worker.

The SFI leader alleged that Mr Kummanam posted the misleading video to trigger  political tensions. He sought action against Mr Kummanam under section 153A of IPC for promoting enmity between different groups.

Mr  Kummanam, however,  defended the  video and said that it was  original.  He was ready to go to jail on the issue, he said.

Mr Kummananam told reporters in Kannur  that he stood firm on his stand.

“The slain RSS leader Choorakkad Biju’s travel plans were known only to the police. Only a detailed probe can find out  how this information was leaked,”  he  said.
