Hyderabad: Mild tension prevailed in Nalgonda district of Telangana after members of ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and Congress clashed and pelted stones at each other when they came face-to-face during a programme.

Windowpanes of at least eight vehicles were damaged in stone pelting, while some activists also received injuries in the scuffle, said police.

Congress MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy and other party workers were taken into preventive custody after the incident, said police. The trouble started after Reddy took out a rally ‘without permission’ to the venue of an official programme in Gandhamvarigudem of the district where state Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao was scheduled to take part, police said.

On noticing Congress workers, TRS members raised slogans against them following which heated arguments broke out and the activists of both the sides indulged in stone pelting, said police.

Police immediately intervened and dispersed both the groups and brought the situation under control, Nalgonda District Superintendent of Police N Prakash Reddy, who visited the spot and reviewed the situation, said over phone.

The SP said, "Congress MLA Reddy took the rally near the venue of the event without permission." Following the scuffle, the MLA and his followers were taken into preventive custody and cases will be registered for rioting and unlawful assembly against the Congress workers, the senior police officer said.
