Chennai: Lashing out at the Congress and JD(S) for attempting to “capture” power in Karnataka, despite facing poll debacle, BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has said this “anti-democratic and opportunistic alliance” should not come to power in that state.

Contending that BJP should definitely form the government in Karnataka for the betterment of the people there and in safeguarding the interest of Tamil Nadu on Cauvery, she said the Congress is attempting to stage a comeback by projecting H. D. Kumaraswamy (of JD (S)) who had not only protested against releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu but also mentioned about this in his party’s election manifesto. “So, the return of Congress with the support of Kumaraswamy would only mean reviving TN’s problems. Their alliance is against democracy and is opportunistic. It should not come to power,” she emphasised.

Speaking to reporters here on Wednesday Dr. Tamilisai said the Congress and JD (S) have no moral rights to stake claim to form the government.

To a question on the Centre's draft Cauvery management scheme submitted before the Supreme Court, she said the scheme would accrue benefits to Tamil Nadu. “We have waited for so many years, we have been neglected. Now there is hope of Tamil Nadu getting the Cauvery water,” she added.

To a query on BJP functionary S. Ve. Shekher who remained elusive, the BJP chief said her party had already initiated action on him and it was left for law to take its own course. “The BJP will not accept anyone uttering anything derogatory about women,” she said.
