Karnataka High Court notice to Mohammad Mohsin for checking PM’s chopper

BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday issued notice to Mohammad Mohsin, a 1996 batch IAS officer of Karnataka cadre, who had checked the helicopter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Sambalpur in Odisha. He has been accused of violating the norms while dealing with SPG protectees.

The court issued notice to Mohsin and other respondents following an appeal filed by the Election Commission (EC) challenging the order of the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which has stayed the order suspending Mohsin.

The EC had suspended him for allegedly violating its instructions issued in April 2014 that SPG protectees should not be checked. After he was suspended, Mohsin had challenged his suspension before CAT. Now, the EC has challenged the CAT order. The incident happened on April 16 when the Prime Minister arrived in Sambalpur to address a rally.

Notice to club
The High Court has issued notice to the Chairman of the Karnataka Govern—ment Secretariat club, horticulture department, and others following a PIL alleging illegal occupancy of a government building situated inside Cubbon Park.

Niyazuddin M.K., an advocate has filed the petition challenging illegal occupancy by Karnataka Government Secretariat (KGS) club, even though their lease expired in 1997.

The petitioner has contended that the lease deed dated 4, July 1990 executed to the club by the government for a period of ten years commenced in the year 1987 and ended in 1997.

After the expiry of the lease, no new lease has been executed by the government in favour of KGS club. In addition, the club is not a government body and hence is occupying the building illegally, the plea stated.

The petitioner also pointed out that club office-bearers are planning to construct a swimming pool for the members.

The petitioner sought for directions to the government to take over the custody of the building and also direct the club authorities to not proceed with construction of the proposed swimming pool.

PU College Fees:
The high court has issued notice to state government, education department, Office of Collegiate Education and Pre-University Education Department following a PIL challenging the exorbitant donations and fees charged by private PU colleges.

The PIL filed by Amrutesh N.P., seeks directions to the government and the education department to open new pre-university colleges in the interest of equity and justice.
