Thomas Piketty calls on Pinarayi Vijayan

Mr Piketty conveyed his desire to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan during their meeting in Paris.

Thiruvananthapuram: Noted French economist Thomas Piketty on Thursday said he was keen on studying Kerala model of economic growth in depth and also to recommend measures for strengthening the state's economy.

Mr Piketty conveyed his desire to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan during their meeting in Paris. The Chief Minister had an hour-long meeting with the economist whose work focuses on wealth and income inequality and measures to bridge this inequality.

Lucas Chancel, professor at Paris School of Economics and someone  who has done extensive research on India's economic inequality and on sustained development, was also present during the meeting.

Mr Piketty said he was aware of the progress achieved by Kerala through land reforms, advancement in health  and education sectors.

The Chief Minister informed him that the LDF government was  pursuing an inclusive development policy in the state. Mr Piketty accepted Mr Vijayan's invite to visit the state.
