Students vandalise school over appointment of new headmaster

Disappointed over new head, teachers instigated kids'.

CHENNAI: Students of government-aided M.Ct.Muthiah Chettiar Boys Higher Secondary School at Purasawalkam here ransacked the institution on Thursday over appointment of a new headmaster. The school management alleged that a section of teachers who were disappointed with the appointment of the new headmaster instigated  students.

Some teachers  demanded that Sundararajan, who was temporarily in-charge, as headmaster. But the school management appointed  S.Ravisankar as headmaster recently. He took charge on June 1. Seventeen teachers and nine non-teaching staff were protesting on the campus opposing the appointment. They decided to join duty on Thursday.

“The teachers and non-teaching staff instigated students to damage school property, Students smashed glass windows, desks and fluorescent bulbs with  wooden logs,  We have lodged a police complaint,”  said S.Ravisankar, headmaster.

Officials of school education department conducted  an inquiry on the school premises. School education officials said there is some problem between the school management and teachers. “We will take necessary action to resolve the issue,” they said.
