Hyderabad: The SCB (Secunderabad Cantonment Board) has set up accessibility points where residents can apply for their voting rights and make any corrections in records. On Saturday the board added new voters to its electoral list at an programme organised at Ward No.5 in Vasavi Nagar.

“Earlier, the enrolment was done as a door to door campaign, but since the addresses of many of the voters have changed, the staff are finding it difficult to identify the voters' residences. So a particular venue was fixed for their enrolment and the message was passed on to the residents via WhatsApp groups,” said Mr T. Sathish Gupta, a resident of the colony.

Mr Gupta said the names of about 90 per cent of his colony residents were missing from the voters list and they were not even aware of that. When inquired, the authorities blamed some technical snag for the problem. Saturday's drive came after they approached the elected representatives regarding the issue, he said.

Mr N. Kranti Kumar, another resident of Vasavi Nagar, said, “In last election I came to know that was not eligible to vote only when I went to the booth. This time I wanted to ensure that it will not repeat.”
