Inter-faith marriage: Couple seeks SP’s help in Krishnagiri district
Plea to Bandi Gangadhar to restrain Madurai cops.
KRISHNAGIRI: A couple who had an inter-faith marriage sought protection from Krishnagiri district superintendent of police, Bandi Gangadhar after a police team from Madurai came searching for them.
Shajitha of Meenakshipuram in Madurai and K. Anandan (27) of Opathavadi village in Bargur married here in a temple a few days ago. Their marriage was not approved by the girl’s relatives who also gave a missing complaint.
A police team from Madurai came to Opathavadi village searching for them. The newly wed couple approached Krishnagiri SP Bandi Gangadhar and asked for protection on Saturday.
Shajitha, the petitioner said that her parents did not accept her inter-faith marriage and would separate them if she was sent with the police team that came searching for them from her native place. Bargur police is conducting a probe after Shajitha’s petition was sent to the station officer from the Krishnagiri district SP’s office.
In a similar case, N.Vasantha Kumar (25) of Kalarpathi village and K.Poovizhi (24) of Kamarajnagar in Uthangarai came to Mathur police station and sought protection. They said that they were in love for over three years and were married without the approval of their relatives.
Mathur police handed over the couple to Uthangarai police station where an abduction case was registered against Vasantha Kumar following a complaint given by the girl’s relatives. Uthangarai police sent the girl with Vasantha Kumar after their efforts to mediate peace between the two families failed.
