Hyderabad: The disintegrated models of technical education, where employment opportunities are high but the cost of education is low, are being opted by students, making engineering colleges in the state struggle to fill their seats.

While the first round of counselling sees a considerable rush, the second and third rounds of counselling in medical colleges show the desperation of various managements in filling seats.

A senior professor of an engineering college in TS explained, “The second and third rounds have higher category seats and most parents are not interested in paying high fees. With the options of integrated courses, disintegration of technical education and also opportunity of private technical courses, there is a large scope and parents are opting for these courses.”

A recent trend noted is to opt for technical education in computer application and enrol with institutes offering a job at the end of training.

Arvind Reddy, a senior executive explained, “Most jobs in the market need employees to be proficient in reading, writing, analytical skills as the machine will process the remaining information and work out the details. Hence, high-level technical jobs in the factories, workshops and others are for the highly-skilled but these are very few.”

With technology changing rapidly, it is becoming important for universities and high-end colleges to be updated.

These are a challenge as professors have to be a part of conferences and also in sync with work cultures in industry.\

The disintegration of courses is being done as it helps to scale it faster and also adjust to the increasing cost of education in the market.
