New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said political parties have spoken in one voice over the developments in Kashmir and asserted that it has sent the right message and benefited the country.

Modi made these remarks at an all-party meeting convened ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament beginning tomorrow, official sources said.

"Various parties have given statements on Kashmir events which benefited the country. This has sent a right message and I thank all the parties for the same," he said while complimenting them for speaking in "one voice", the sources said.

"We represent both the people and the parties and there is a need to keep national interests above anything else," the Prime Minister said.

Kashmir has been experiencing unrest aster the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.

Pakistan had waded into the issue and slammed the Modi-led government over the issue, after which Congress in a show of support said that Islamabad had no business commenting about India’s internal affairs.

Senior Congress leader and former external affairs minister Salman Khurshid last week said nobody has the right to comment on the internal affairs of India.

"I think nobody has any business to comment on anything which is entirely our own internal matter," he said.

Khurshid had asserted that the security forces have the right take any precautionary step to uphold law and order situation in Kashmir state.

"If there is a state of emergency situation in which our armed and paramilitary forces have to take action, both to protect their own lives as wells secure law and order in our country, they have to take that action and nobody has the right question it," Khurshid said.
