TIRUPATI: Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan on Monday lodged a formal complaint with Tirupati district superintendent of police (SP) P. Parameswara Reddy, seeking justice for JSP worker assaulted by Srikalahasti circle inspector Anju Yadav on July 12.

The Jana Sena chief arrived in Tirupati on Monday morning and led a massive procession to the SP's office to submit a complaint to police against his party worker’s assault.

He requested the police to respect rule of law and allow their political programmes. He underlined that his party members would maintain discipline.

SP Parameswara Reddy informed the JS chief that a charge memo has already been issued to circle inspector Anju Yadav. Departmental action will be initiated after receiving her reply. The officer assured Pawan Kalyan that he would take up the matter with higher authorities.

Before leaving for Delhi from Tirupati, Pawan Kalyan met media at the airport and expressed his gratitude to the Human Rights Commission for issuing a notice to the inspector. He underlined that the Supreme Court itself has recognised people's right to hold peaceful protests. He urged police to respect this fundamental aspect of democracy.

The actor-turned-politician urged police to refrain from behaving like political party leaders. They should confine themselves to their duty of maintaining law and order, he stated.
