Kalpeeta: With all the roads closed to the plains, Wayanad isolated from the rest of the state. KSRTC stopped services to Wayanad as the Ghat Road is under threat from recurring landslides.

Though the road was cleared, many points of the Ghat Road are under landslide threat. With 24,743 persons from 6,821 families are in 197 camps.  The two major Ghat roads to Wayanad from Kannur are already closed due to recurring landslides at Nedumpoyil.

The Boys Town road was closed earlier. The two inter-state roads Kalpetta-Mysore road and Kalpetta Gudallur Ooty road are clear for the time being.

Mananthavady taluk is isolated from other parts of Wayanad as all the major roads are flooded. The milk societies of Wayanad are planning to reduce milk collection due to hurdles in transporting.

On the relief front the district faces acute shortage of rice and other food stuffs as the NH 766 has been closed in the Thamarasery Ghats. Trucks with tons of relief material are trapped at Adivaram as all the roads are closed.

District Collector A.R. Ajayakumar told DC that elaborate measures are on to ensure steady flow of relief material to camps. State governments of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu along and people from all walks of life are steadily supplying material, he added.

A team from Selam in Tamil Nadu reached with 12 tons of relief material on Wednesday.

In the last 24 hours the district received 96.67 millimetre rain.

The Vythiri and Mananthavady taluks received 111.4 millimetre and 113 millimetre rain. Experts feel that the heavy rain will cause landslides in the Ghat regions of Kozhikode, Malappuram and Kannur districts as the rivers of the district are running down to these districts.
