Kollam: As the flood waters of Pamba entered homes of Pathanamthitta district where a large number of expatriates had left their parents back home alone, their cries for help fill the social media.

Many shared distress calls from people stranded on the upper levels of inundated houses on platforms like WhatsApp.

Apart from social media, television channels also carried these requests, some of them from their relatives abroad.  The stranded people are mostly from Cherukolpuzha, Aranmula, Changanasseri, Maramon and Ranni.

They were left with no power in their mobile phones due to the power outage in these areas.

People in distress have sought refuge on rooftops without electricity, food, or drinking water, surrounded by flood water.

The rescue teams are at a loss as these places as inaccessible for boats and choppers to land.

As many as 15 troops of national disaster response team are striving hard to address these calls and extend help.

Meanwhile, residents allege the calls are not being responded to promptly owing to lack of sufficient rescue force.
