Supreme Court rejects plea of 40 lakh NRC left out
The Union home ministry said the process of informing the public about the reasons for non-inclusion was started on August 10.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected the plea for getting suggestions from various political parties on the Special Operating Procedure to deal with claims and objections from 40 lakh persons who are left out from the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
A Bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and Rohinton Nariman while taking on record the SOP filed by the Centre made it clear that no political party or fresh interveners would be allowed to file their objections/suggestions to the draft SOP placed before it by the Union home ministry.
The Bench sought a sealed cover report of the district wise percentage of population left behind in the draft NRC that had deleted over 40 lakh persons names in Assam for determination of citizenship. The Bench asked the State level coordinator Pradeep Hajela to submit these details on the next date of hearing on August 28.
The Union home ministry said the process of informing the public about the reasons for non-inclusion was started on August 10. Claims and objections would be received from August 30 till October 28.
