At least 100 villagers gathered in the panchayat where the duo was forced to go down on their knees.
Anantapur: Two minors from a Dalit Colony were thrashed by the elders of the village, allegedly after being caught in a compromising position. When the incident went viral on social media, the police registered a case on Friday.
According to police sources, a 15-year-old minor girl and a 16-year-old boy of the Dalit Colony in KP Doddi village in Gummagatta mandal located along the Karnataka border, were discovered in a compromising position in a secluded part of the village by a group of villagers.
The issue was brought to the notice of the elders who then called for a village panchayat to held at the grama chavadi (centre of the village) two days ago. Both the girl and her boyfriend were forcibly brought to the panchayat.
At least 100 villagers gathered in the panchayat where the duo was forced to go down on their knees.
A group of elders abused and beat the duo severely in the presence of the villagers. The elders reportedly warned the mother of the girl and also threatened them with dire consequences if they reported the incident to the police.
However, one person in the panchayat recorded the entire episode and uploaded it on social media.
Police registered a case and launched a manhunt for the elders who led the panchayat.
Meanwhile NGOs and political party leaders expressed anger and shock over the inhuman incident and demanded stringent action.
