Mysuru: A 35-year-old businessman from Mysuru allegedly shot his seven months pregnant wife,  six- year- old son and parents in the head before shooting himself in the throat with a pistol belonging to his friend, a retired soldier from Hassan, on the outskirts of Gundlupet Friday morning.

The businessman, Omprakash, appears to have used the GSF ASANI 32mm pistol to kill his wife, Niharika (30) and son, Aaryakrishna, besides his father, Nagaraj Bhattacharya (60), a retired railway employee, and his mother Hema Raj,( 56).

According to the police, Omprakash lived in a rented  house in Dattagalli layout in Mysuru. He had dropped out of his BE degree course and started two companies, G V infotech and Vibran Effects, which specialised in animation.

On August 13, he left Mysuru with his family in two cars with two drivers, Chethan and Suresh and stayed at a friend's guesthouse in Mangala village near Bandipur in Gundlupet taluk.

On August 15, the family left the guesthouse and had lunch on a private property belonging to one Mahesh Chandra Guru at 2.30 pm.  They later stayed at the Nandi Residency on Calicut Road in Gundlupet town.

Omprakash reportedly informed the drivers that they would have to leave for Salem later that night and at 3 am called Suresh to see if he was ready. But 10 minutes later he allegedly called him again to say that he had parked both cars at the spot where they had lunch, and began to rant that he had been cheated and was defeated in life. He asked him not to look for them, according to the police.

When both drivers rushed to the lunch spot they found the vehicles, but not the family.  They  informed the highway  police , who  found the bodies of all five on the private property, about 200 meters from the main road.

According to relatives Omprakash has suffered a loss in his business and had huge debts.  But the police have still not established the exact reason for the shootings.

The Gundlupet police have registered a case and are investigating. The bodies were handed over to relatives after postmortem at the Chamarajnagar district hospital.
