Bengaluru: First heart transplant under govt scheme
The patient was undergoing at Narayana Health city for the past nine months.
Bengaluru: The heart of a 28-year-old man from Mysuru, who was declared brain dead on Thursday, provided a new lease of life to a 38-year-old man from Bagalkot who was suffering from heart failure.
The patient was undergoing at Narayana Health city for the past nine months. As his condition could only be improved through heart transplant, the doctors suggested him to register at Jeevasarthake (An organization formed by the Karnataka government which aims to coordinate the deceased donor transplantation activities and also educate the public on organ donation). The recipient was donated heart of a man from Mysuru and the operation was successful.
The recipient who belonged to lower economic strata and was beneficiary of health scheme of the state government under Vajpayee Arogyashree (SAST). This is the first transplant that has been performed under this scheme.
The heart of the man was transported from Mysuru to Narayana Health City with the help of green corridor.
