Thrissur: Over 80 students travelling by a school bus had a miraculous escape when both its rear wheels went off the vehicle near Kanjani here on Friday morning. Luckily, the vehicle did not topple or any of the 83 students of the Eravu St Joseph’s English medium school, who were in the bus, suffer any injury.

The driver had earlier taken the bus to a garage as both its rear tyres got punctured. While the workers replaced the tyres, the driver drove away before they tightened the screws of the wheels. Soon after the tyres came out of position, Thrissur RTO R. Rajeev said.

The permit of the bus would be cancelled and a notice would be issued on Saturday. The motor vehicle inspectors will inspect all the buses in the school on Saturday. Anthikkad police slapped a case against the driver for negligent driving and the RTO cancelled the fitness of the bus. Eyewitnesses said that the bus did not topple as it was moving slowly when the wheels went off.
