CM YS Jagan to unveil 125 feet tall Ambedkar statue in November
Vijayawada: Minister for municipal administration Adimulapu Suresh said the 125-feet statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar on the premises of Smriti Vanam at Swaraj Mydan here would be unveiled by Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on November 26.
The minister along with special chief secretary Y. Srilakshmi and municipal commissioner S.D. Pundkar viewed the construction of the statue at Smriti Vanam Wednesday.
Suresh said the CM would dedicate the statue to the nation on Constitution Day, November 26. Smriti Vanam would be developed as a tourist place, he said.
The statue works were progressing at a brisk pace. “As many as 500 labourers are involved in the statue construction. The state government is spending '400 crore for this project.
Beneath the statue, four AC halls would be erected, of which one would be a mini theatre that displays Ambedkar’s life history with photos. The other halls would act as a museum to highlight Babasaheb’s childhood, job and political career, his struggles and the events during the framing of the Constitution.
Special CS Srilakshmi advised the officials and work agencies to complete the landscaping, greenery, water fountain, vehicle parking, electrical works, lighting, granite-flooring and pathway works as early as possible.
APIIC chief engineer Narasimha Rao, zonal manager Sitaram, deputy zonal manager Rahim, KPC project director Vadudeva Rao and project managers Krishna Mohan and Javid were present.
