GSTN glitches will be resolved by October 30: Sushil Kumar Modi
Efforts are being made to address all issues in the next one- and -a -half months, he added.
Bengaluru: Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who heads the Group of Ministers (GoM) constituted to look into technical issues dogging the Goods and Services Network (GSTN), said on Saturday that he was confident 80 per cent of the problems encountered in filing of tax returns would be resolved by October 30 this year.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting here, Mr Modi said it would meet again in Bengaluru during the first week of October to take the discussion further. The group is examining the technical problems faced by GSTN, the information technology (IT) backbone and portal for real-time taxpayer registration, migration, and tax return filing under GST.
“As we are treading in unchartered territory, some technical problems are bound to arise initially. Efforts are being made to address all issues in the next one- and -a -half months,” he added.
Appealing to dealers to file their tax returns in advance to avoid a last minute rush, he said glitches had developed in the GSTN software owing to the huge pressure on it with people rushing to file their GSTR-3B return.
Although only five days were left for filing of the returns for August, merely 3.05 lakh dealers had filed their 3B returns as against the 46 lakh dealers, who had filed it in July, he regretted.
As many as 80 officials of the commercial tax department of different states held marathon meetings with all stakeholders such as dealers, tax consultants and software experts to understand the numerous challenges faced by them. With around 85 lakh dealers registering under GST, the filing of returns on the last day of August had caused technical glitches.
