Psychometric tests welcome, need more teacher interaction: Kailash Satyarthi
The saga of our system's failure to protect the young ones still continues.
Bengaluru: “Along with psychometric analysis, more collaboration with the IT sector should be encouraged to develop more effective ways to bring underlying aspects of individuals around children at schools. The decision to bring out crucial data on staff is certainly a welcome,” said Nobel laureate and renowned child rights advocate Kailash Satyarthi, while commenting on the decision of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to conduct psychometric tests on school employees.
In the city for #MakeIndiaSafe campaign, Mr Satyarthi, commenting on the murder of seven-year-old Pradyuman at Ryan International School in Gurgaon, said, “The saga of our system’s failure to protect the young ones still continues. It creates a sense of urgency to ensure schools are safe places for children.”
He said that it is not an isolated case as a larger number of such incidents occur across the country, but are not brought to light. “Such abusers and perpetrators of crime against children should be socially boycotted and punished legally without any delay and failure.”
On the role played by parents in ensuring safety in schools, Mr Satyarthi, founder of Bachpan Bachao Andolan, said, “Parents should raise equal concern to monitor children’s safety at the institution and do research on academic, co-curricular facilities provided.”
