HYDERABAD: Asserting that the BJP was the only alternative to the TRS in the state, BJP state president Dr K. Laxman challenged its arch rival MIM to contest from all the 119 seats in the state. “Now is the time to liberate political parties like the Congress, TD and the TRS from the clutches of the MIM, which had been ranting on the strength of 10 seats which it got by match-fixing and not by its real strength,” he said.

Dr Laxman added that MIM president Asaduddin Owaisi had become the “high command” for TRS president and caretaker Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy and the TD state and the people were aware of it.

He said the party was organizing a massive meeting at the Congress stronghold of Huzurnagar, represented by TPCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy, on Monday, Telangana Liberation Day. About 50 constituencies would be covered before the end of October, thereby completing the first phase of electioneering. Dr Laxman said a list of candidates was being worked out and would be announced once the election schedule was published. BJP president Amit Shah would address a meeting at Karimnagar in a fortnight, he added.

Addressing the media on Sunday, he advised MIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, who took to Twitter to post messages against the BJP, to take up the challenge thrown by the BJP. He said any of the BJP activists was strong enough to defeat MIM leaders, and asked Mr Owaisi to come out of the “comfort of benefits drawn from appeasement politics of parties in power”.
