The Chief Secretaries of the states will be personally accountable for failure to formulate the action plan, the NGT said.

Hyderabad: The National Green Tribunal is ready to launch a new software that will allow people to file complaints online using their emails, said chairperson tribunal Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel said on Saturday.

Justice Goel said this was being done to reduce procedures which would result in orders being passed more swiftly.

“We will introduce a formal system permitting email petitions, which can be filed from anywhere in the country by paying a court fee and complying with the rules,” he said. The email petitioning system will help people in remote areas, as there would be no need to travel far to file a petition, he said.

When it receives petitions about violation of environmental laws such as illegal construction in eco-sensitive area, the Tribunal directs the statutory body concerned to conduct inquiry and take action, Justice Goel said.

“When dealing with larger issues, such as pollution of rivers or solid waste management, NGT members discuss the matter with experts and stakeholders in person or through video link,” he told mediapersons here.
