Kochi: The 12th edition of the annual international cybersecurity conference Cocon will be held on September 27 and 28 in Kochi.

Dr Paul Vixie, a founding member of ICANN Root Server System Advisory Committee and the ICANN Security and Stability Advisory Committee and Major General Sandeep Sharma of National Technical Research Organisation are keynote speakers.

Some 1,000 delegates from more than 25 countries are expected to share the latest trends in the 12th edition of the international cybersecurity conference, said Manoj Abraham, ADGP - headquarters and nodal officer, Kerala Police Cyberdome.

"Some 800 delegates have already registered and we expect the number to touch 1,200," he said.

"There'll be security briefings, workshops, exhibition and display stalls, hardware and hacking villages at the conference."

Mr Abraham also said that there would be sessions on countering online child exploitation and awareness training for schools and teachers named Kidsglove.

The Kidsglove will be conducted in Kochi on September 20 with 3,00 students along with teachers for getting awareness about the internet and cybercrimes.

This time, darknet and counter defence against digital warfare will be the main themes. Crimes related to darknet and how it can be reduced will be a point of discussion.

Cybercrimes this year saw a 10-15 per cent increase in the state.

"Cybercrime is the new challenge to the global community, industry and law enforcement. It is not confined to any national boundary. So there is a need to aware the public about this," he said.

He said that a security operations sector, also known as a Darknet Lab, is operating at the Cyberdome focusing on the dark web with new technical features.

"The cyberattacks are increasing by the day. We have traced drugs, credit card data and fake passport dealings with Kerala connection in the darknet," he said.

"We were able to crack the codes used in these shady dealings with new software to infiltrate into the darknet."

Speakers include Ryan Sherstobitoff, senior analyst, major campaigns at Mcafee, John Rouse, detective inspector, Queensland Police, and Roshy John, global head, robotics and cognitive systems at TCS.
