Hyderabad: Three extraordinary women who are to receive the United Nations Development Program Equator Prize 2019 have finally been granted 10-year visas by the United States of America Consulate in Hyderabad in a second round of interviews.

It was reported by DC that the visas were rejected in the first round of interview and they were termed ineligible.

After a hue and cry and complaint to the United States of America Embassy, a second round of interviews was taken up and the visas have now been granted.

Three women Anasuyamma Chilkapally, Mogulamma Kandakam and Mayuri Masanagari are being awarded for their grassroots-level works in the field of agriculture and natural, innovative solutions to climate change. The women are to participate in community dialogues from September 20-25 where they will share their experiences with 20 other winners from across the world.

In a goodwill gesture after the goof-up, the US Consulate office in Hyderabad's Acting Consul General Eric Alexander has personally written to all the three visa holders congratulating them on the UN award.

He has also wished them a great interactive session in the United Nations in New York. Of the three women, all of whom are super excited, only Mayuri Masanagari can speak in English. She will be the translator for the other two, Anasuyamma Chilkapally and Mogulamma Kandakam.
