Thrissur: The home department has wound up the inquiry into the sensational Wadakkanchery gang-rape involving a CPM councillor, his brothers and two other men.

In a letter to Wadakkanchery MLA Anil Akkara, it put the alleged victim at fault for filing a "false complaint" and that there was no proof of gang-rape.

In 2016, dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi and actor Mala Parvathi presented the victim before the media at the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club where she and her husband said P. N. Jayanthan, his brother Jithesh, and two of their friends had taken her to a building under construction in Cherpu and gang-raped.

The four men told her that her husband was hospitalised and wanted her to get into their vehicle to go there.

The home department also stated that the financial dealings between the four men and the husband of the victim had led to filing the complaint. It also says that lie detection tests were conducted on the accused men but no evidence could be collected.

Mr Akkara who had come in support of her said that the councillor was close to local self-governments' minister A. C. Moideen and other CPM leaders in Wadakkanchery.

"Hence, CPM leaders want to close this case before the upcoming civic polls and inquiry has been botched up. They also know very well that LDF will not come to power in the next assembly elections," he said.

"The victim had given a complaint regarding cheating to the tune of Rs 3.5 lakh by these men. But, the cops did not even register an FIR. The case is before Wadakkanchery magistrate and further course of action will be taken after the final verdict from the court on the inquiry which was conducted by a woman IPS officer."

"CPM central committee member K. Radhakrishnan is also facing a case for revealing the victim's name," he added.
