OOTY: In the next step towards plastics control and to ensure collection and recycling of every little plastic bottle consumed in Ooty, five Reverse Vending Machines(RVM) for plastic bottles collection and recycling have been installed in Ooty As Nilgiris has already proved itself to be a pioneer in plastic control and management measures, now, the RVM initiative is obviously in tune with Prime Minister Modi's call to eliminate plastic waste through strengthening plastic waste collection and recycling.

Ms. J. Innocent Divya, collector of Nilgiris, who inaugurated this new initiative here on Monday said, "the current linear economic approach of 'take-make-dispose (litter)' is proving to be inefficient and adversely affecting the environmental health. The solution lies in replacing the existing linear economic models with circular economic models via stop using the non-recycled plastics like poly bags and straws/stirrers, and ensuring the recycling of highly recycled plastics such as PET(polyethylene terephthalate) and HDPE( High density polyethylene) bottles. The aim is to ensure the collection and recycling of every last plastic bottle consumed in Ooty."
Mr. Ajay Mishra, CEO - Biocrux, Manufacturers of the RVM machines said to address the issue of environmental degradation, it is crucial to make the citizens aware about proper disposal and recycling of plasticwastes.
