Hyderabad: An online petition has been posted on behalf of the parents of KV1 Uppal school children. The petition draws the attention of government and the police to unauthorised parking of buses and commercial vehicles in front of the school, endangering the lives of the children.

The petition alleges that there are traffic police posted near prestigious private schools at the time they close, but no cops man the road outside KV-1, Uppal to regulate traffic and ensure the children are safe. The petition also questions the traffic police for the negligence shown because it is a government school.

The petition says that 2,000 children study in the school. The parents have demanded deployment of a constable for regulating traffic during the opening and closing hours of the school.

The petition has collected 100 signatures so far and will be sent to the minister for information technology, municipal administration and urban development, K.T. Rama Rao, and Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat. The Rachakonda police commissionerate has forwarded it to the Uppal traffic police.

S. Geethika, one of the parents, said, “Though the school is in vacation now, traffic chaos near the school is routine during opening and closing hours of the school. The chaos gets worse because tons of RTC buses and commercial vehicles are parked along the national highway, making the road narrower. When the school shuts for the day at 2.30 pm, the road gets blocked with TSRTC buses and private commercial vehicles that are parked on either side of the road as their drivers have lunch. It makes things difficult for parents who come to pick up their children.”

Mahesh Bhagwat, Rachakonda Police Commissioner said that due to “less manpower” it is “difficult to deploy cops at each and every junction. We have about 400-500 traffic cops in Rachakonda police limits and we have already deployed them in all the important junctions. As we have many schools in our city limits it is difficult to deploy cops at each and every school.”
