Sabarimala temple: Sarah Joseph says women made pawns
She asked the state government to ensure the safety of the women who will visit the temple.
Kottayam: Writer Sara Joseph has lashed out at the women who protested against the Supreme Court verdict on the entry of women in Sabarimala temple, saying they are pawns in the hands of community leaders and products of a patriarchal society.
“It is the community leaders who are instigating the women to protest against the entry of women which they say is against the rituals and beliefs. The women are the products of a patriarchal society and only a few can take an independent stand,” she told Deccan Chronicle.
She asked the state government to ensure the safety of the women who will visit the temple.
Lauding the SC verdict, she said the judgment upheld the values of Indian Constitution which treated women as equal to men.
“The need of the hour is to find a solution to the issue by the central and state governments and the religious outfits which claim to represent the believes,” she said
