Warangal jail head may be suspended

Hyderabad: The authorities of the prisons department would recommend to the government to suspend Warangal Central Prison’s superintendent K. Newton for negligence in the recent jail breaking incident by two prisoners.
Two life prisoners Rajesh Yadav alias Kumar (C.T. No. 2812) from Bihar and Sainik Singh (C.T. No. 5455) from UP were shifted from Cherlapally central prison to Warangal central prison in September along with some other trouble making inmates.
While shifting these two prisoners, the director general of prisons' department V.K. Singh issued alerts to Mr Newton that the two had an intention to escape. As there was less staff on Saturday, the duo escaped from the prison. However, Sainik Singh was caught the next day in AP.
Mr. V.K. Singh told DC that he would recommend to the government to suspend the superintendent. “After the enquiry report I have transferred Mr Newton and asked him to report to headquarters immediately. I have transferred Mahbubnagar superintendent Sampath to Warangal central prison,” he said.
Mr Newton said that he took all precautions and improved security at the prison.
“Due to competitive exams some staff was on leave and very few staff were on duty at the time of the incident. Today I was relieved from Warangal central prison and I'll report at headquarters on Thursday,” he said.
