Charge sheet filed against MK Alagiri's son in granite case
The police have booked 98 cases against people involved in illegal mining in Madurai district particularly in Melur Taluk.
Madurai: The police on Thursday filed a charge sheet against former union minister M K Alagiri's son Durai Dayanadhi and 14 others before Melur Magistrate court in a case relating to illegal granite mining.
The investigating officer P Gurusamy, DSP, district crime branch, Madurai charged Olympus Granites Pvt Ltd and its shareholders Nagarajan and Durai of causing a revenue lose to the tune of Rs 257 crore to the State government. The 5,191-page charge-sheet was placed before the Judicial Magistrate 1V, Thiru. Gowthaman.
The Keelavalavu police had registered cases against Mr. Durai Dayanidhi in August, 2012 under various IPC sections, including 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 447 (criminal trespass) and 420 (cheating) based on a complaint from the Village Administrative Officer of Keelavalavu, who alleged that Olympus Granites had quarried granite illegally on government land and caused a revenue loss to the government.
After the filing of cases, Durai had allegedly absconded for newly four months before obtaining anticipatory bail from the Madurai Bench of the Madras High court.
The multi-crore granite scam was brought to light by the then Madurai Collector Thiru. U Sagayam in 2012 and he had sent a detailed report to the government recommending thorough investigation.
The police have booked 98 cases against people involved in illegal mining in Madurai district particularly in Melur Taluk and so far they have filed charge sheets in 78 cases in the Melur Magistrate court.
