SC ruling on quota exposes K Chandrasekhar Rao: Shabbir Ali
K. Chandrasekhar Rao's claims that he would secure 12 per cent reservations for Muslims had been weakened.
Hyderabad: Mr Shabbir Ali, Leader of Opposition in the Council, said on Thursday that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s claims that he would secure 12 per cent reservations for Muslims had been weakened by the Supreme Court ruling on the reservation quota in Rajasthan. Mr Shabbir Ali said that the SC had held that the quota for socially and economically backward classes should not cross the 50 per cent cap at any cost. “With this the bluff and deception of TRS government on hiking Muslim reservations in Telangana state to 12 per cent has been exposed again,” he said.
Speaking to mediapersons at the Assembly, Mr Shabbir Ali asked, “Can KCR make Prime Minister Narendra Modi issue a statement favouring 12 per cent quota in contradiction to his party line and the Supreme Court verdict?”
He demanded that the Chief Minister issue an executive order increasing reservations for Muslims to 12 per cent since an Act had been passed in the Legisla-ture. He said the declaration Mr Rao that he would seek inclusion of the quota under the 9th Schedule of the Constitution and fight for the Tamil Nadu model move would need a Constitutional amendment.
